The group was founded more than 60 years ago by Mordechai Schechter and Yoram Schechter RIP, both of whom are among the most senior and veteran members of the Israeli construction industry. The Group specializes in all types of development and construction: Commercial, offices, hotels, industrial, public buildings and residential. In its close to sixty years of existence, the Group has built hundreds of thousands of sq. meters in Israel both as a development company and as an executing company.
Solid foundations
The Group’s stable growth throughout its years of operation has led it to its current financial state, in which it boasts a robust and stable financial strength based on equity built over the years. The Group’s financial capabilities are reflected in its ability to execute large-scale projects while relying mostly on its own resources.

The Founders
Mordechai “Monia” Shechter, was born in Romania in 1928. After immigrating to Israel in 1949, he began working as a construction worker and dedicated himself to learning the basics of engineering and construction. During this period, he met his wife, Madlen “Bebe” Shechter, in 1956 the two married and raised their children Together: Yoram, Ayelet and Merav.
In 1961, Mordechai began his independent journey and thus the first steps of the Shechter Group began. <br> <br> With his determination and his hard and constant work, Mordechai became one of the leading construction contractors in Israel. The story of Mordechai Shechter is an example of the power of perseverance, continuous study and building great abilities. The beginning of his career was as a construction worker who studied and perfected his skills tirelessly to eventually establish a successful group that leaves a lasting mark on the entire construction industry in Israel.
In 1982, Mordechai began the group’s first entrepreneurial project – Gan Ha’ir in Tel Aviv, a residential tower combined with a shopping mall, with a unique design, combining open and closed spaces. The project, under Mordechai’s leadership, was groundbreaking in the architectural design, and in its high-quality and unique execution while adhering to uncompromising standards. The project has become an iconic symbol of luxury and quality in Tel Aviv that represents Mordechai’s innovative and ambitious spirit and his dedication to breaking boundaries in the construction industry. Gan Ha’ir stands as a testimony to Mordechai Shechter’s ability to create projects that leave a mark on the architectural landscape in Israel, that demonstrate a level of execution at the highest standards, and are an inspiration for new and ambitious projects around him. <br> <br> Mordechai Shechter, together with his son Yoram Shechter, continued to develop and lead the establishment of unique and leading projects in Israel, such as: Jerusalem of Gold, Mount Zion Hotel, Nof Yam Club and more.
Mordechai’s unique path was characterized by the invention of construction methods, some of which were adopted by the Technion as official construction methods in Israel. The assimilation of innovative construction methods led by Mordechai was illustrated in the Young Afula project, a project that demonstrated his dedication to efficient and quality construction. In the project, 667 housing units were successfully built in an extraordinary time frame of only one year, an achievement that illustrated Mordechai’s abilities and commitment to creativity in the construction industry. As a token of appreciation for his achievements and for being one of the Israel Builders, in 1992 Mordechai was awarded the esteemed title of “Rav Kablan” (grand constructor) on behalf of the Association of Contractors and Builders in Israel.
<br>Mordechai Shechter’s unwavering commitment to quality construction, attention to detail and dedication to the group’s customers has remained rooted in the group from the day it was founded until today.
Beyond his professional work, his personal spirit was an inspiration to the people around him. He exemplified principles of morality, integrity and genuine concern for others, and showed boundless concern for his family, relatives, employees and customers. <br> <br>His extraordinary nature is evident in his compassion, listening, unwavering care, continuous learning and generosity. Mordechai Shechter passed away in April 2020, his spirit and values continue to guide and inspire, charting the path for all of us.
Yoram Shechter was born in 1957 in Givatayim. From his early years, Yoram actively participated in his father’s construction business. At the age of 18, he joined the Armored Corps of the IDF, where he served mainly as an operations officer and SMP in the 7th Brigade. After his military service, Yoram began his academic studies, enrolling in economics and business administration studies at Tel Aviv University. During this time, he met his wife Hila (Twersky) Shechter. Together they raised their children – Dari, Rom and Zohi.
Upon completion of his university studies, Yoram received a managerial and leading position in the company. He took on various responsibilities, including leading the field of entrepreneurship, identifying potential projects, supervising regulatory processes and managing all the departments covering the company’s construction activities. <br> <br>
Yoram’s entrepreneurial spirit ignited his passion to establish and develop extraordinary real estate projects, differentiating them from what is customary in Israel. With his intelligence, ambition and keen eye for detail, Yoram approached his work with creativity and true love for the construction industry.
Yoram’s notable achievement was leading the purchase and upgrade of the Mount Zion Hotel. The hotel, in its historic and unique location at the foot of the old city walls, underwent a complete transformation under the leadership of Yoram, in terms of design, operations and branding. The moves led by Yoram placed it as one of the most sought-after hotels in Jerusalem. Yoram’s goal was to bring the hotel to the forefront of the tourism industry in Israel, and accordingly, Yoram led the plan to expand and upgrade the hotel, while creating collaborations with leading architects from around the world. The ambitious expansion plan, which was finally approved, stands as a testimony to the creativity and vision that Yoram held in promoting iconic real estate projects.
At the same time, Yoram started, together with his father, the initiation of prestigious projects in the center of the city of Jerusalem. These pioneering ventures brought an unprecedented level of quality and luxury to residential projects in the city. The jewel in the crown among them is the Jerusalem of Gold project, a project with extraordinary uniqueness, both in the architectural elements and in the planning of the details that adorn the project. In establishing the project, Yoram presented innovative thinking that was reflected in the success of the project and the fact that Jerusalem if Gold’s project is recognized as a project that leads luxury residences in Jerusalem. <br> Yoram’s wonderful entrepreneurial spirit and creativity shone through, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of Jerusalem.
Yoram’s passion for public service was deep, and he saw it as a personal mission. At the age of 42, in 1999, he was elected chairman of the Tel Aviv Contractors Association, and demonstrated exceptional leadership at a young age. At the same time, he held the position of vice president of the National Contractors Association. Yoram’s commitment to public involvement expanded to areas other than the construction industry when he served as chairman of News Channel 10 and as a director at the Israel Airports Authority and at Ashot Ashkelon.
Yoram, known in his life for his warmth and generosity, consistently showed genuine concern for those around him. Cultivated deep and personal relationships with his colleagues and employees, and showered them with love, support and assistance without limit. This devotion extended to his family, his employees and his friends, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Yoram passed away prematurely in December 2021 and unfortunately was only 64 years old.
His tireless spirit and exemplary values continue to inspire and lead us all.
His legacy serves as a guiding light and inspiration for his friends, his family and his employees in the company in particular.
